TOWA
Located in the heart of Kyoto, this century-old machiya has been given a new life while holding onto the traces of what came before. Its original beams and structure were carefully preserved, while the layout was gently reworked for modern living, allowing old and new to exist naturally together. Guided by a wabi-sabi approach, Japanese timber, natural materials, and pieces by local artisans bring warmth and quiet detail, celebrating the beauty of age, craft, and imperfection.
Natural light moves through the house and draws the spaces toward the garden, softening the boundary between inside and out. Though surrounded by the movement of central Kyoto, the house turns inward, creating a sense of stillness where the city seems to fall away. It is a home shaped by simplicity, nature, and a slower rhythm of everyday life.
